I have booked a cruise from Jamaica. Is it advisable to do the land excursions on my own or should I book it with the cruise company?

It is more advisable to do the land excursion with the cruise company as they have a package to work with. Unless you have someone to take you on the land tour then go ahead with the cruise company
I assumme that since you are coming in on a cruise you will be arriving at Ocho Rios. I would advise that it will be best to book excursions through the cruise company as it will be safer, you wont have to figure out where to go and how to get around (cuz it can be tricky) and your guide will be able to tell you more about the history and relevance of the areas you will be visiting. I do not know the prices of the excursions through your company, but you should check out this website for Chukka Adventures they are the leading tour-excursion company here on the island, and their tours are well organised and fun. Let me know if you need anymore help, have a great trip!
It all depends on what u want....if you want a routine hassel free tour, it would be best to go through the tour company, however, if you would rather go to less comercial spots, a private tour would be much better, however ensure that you go with a registered JUTA or taxi cab...
I think you should come to Jamaica and explore the island yourself. A cruise would stop in Jamaica for only a day and that is not enough time for you to experience True Romance on your honeymoon!! Jamaica has romance written all over, you would be sorry just to come for a day!!!
Portland is like the most Romantic place on earth and I can help you with planning and everything. Just call 1876 913 6291 Jorja

It all depends on what you really want to do and what port you are coming into (Montego Bay or Ocho Rios) from my experince from working on ships you are always press for time and so much to do and so little time. You can always get register Taxi (Maxi, Juta, Tourwise to name a few) at the ports that can take you to any of the attractions .
What are really interesting in doing and what port are you coming into? because it might not be too far from the ports.
I would say since you have paid the cruise ship company a lot of money to include a tour go with them. But if you do wish to go with me I do use JUTA and I would have to be told at least a month prior so that I can find out the real prices to assist you better and make it reasonable for you.
Unless you know someone on the island who is willing to take you on the land excursion, it is best if you take the tour offered by the cruise. It is important that you get the best out of you honeymoon, money and visit to Jamaica, having a hard time finding places and getting lost would not be a good way to achieve that. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
Since its a cruise i assume you wont be staying in
Jamaica so it is safer and less time consuming to book the tour through a tour company. hopefully the small sample of the island you get will have you wanting more. so you can plan a trip just to see Jamaica next time. and plan a personal tour with your own itinerary
you should book your ground excursions though an experience local tour comapny, in Jamaica i recommend
Since you may be in Jamaica it may be best you not venture on your own, my company can provide a small tour for you tyailored for two which you wont get from the cruise,
Hi,i think you should stick with the cruise company, most cruise companies are affiliated with local tour companies,so i think you would get value for your money.
You have limited time on your stop here in Jamaica, so I would book through the cruise line. If in Ochi try Chukka Adventure or the new Mystic Mountain or do Dolphin Cove. Have a great trip and come back and explore the island!

Based on the time sensitive nature of your cruise, it would be best for you to go along with the excursions that are organized by the ship. If you would like, you can book an excursion independently, depending on where on the island you will actually be going. In general, if it is in and around the city where the ship has docked, Montego Bay or Ocho Rios, you may be able to take that chance.

If you really want to experience Jamaica to the fullest I suggest that you organize a trip whereby you will be able to stay at one of the finest resorts and have the freedom of leisurely enjoying the experience.
it really would be best to stick with the services offered by the cruiseship..as lovely a place as jamaica is, as with any other tourist destination, one must put safety first..its always more advisable to stick to the safety of group tours organised by the cruise company, unless of course if you have a trustworthy local to take you around..hope you enjoy jamaica and all it has to offer to the fullest..
the best option is to take the tour that's is being offered by the cruise, as this will be safer, unless you know of a relative who may take you guys around the island. HAPPY HONEYMOON.
My Advise.. Dont go on your own..
My advice is to use the cruise ship tour desk as your time will be limited. If you are coming ashore in Ocho Rios Mystic Mountain is part owned by carnival so I assume you would get a better price. Chukka Carribbean is also a large company which serves both Ocho Rios and Montego Bay ports. If you are docking in Ocho Rios and rather do the less traveled routes then I can recommend a personal taxi for the day.
The Cruise Company is a safer bet. However try and get a tour that takes you to Dunn's River Falls, Mystic Mountain and ends up in the town of Ocho Rios (Margaritaville is great for lunch)
I am a tour operator that has been in the business for many years. And over the years cruise companies have been trying to let it's passengers think the same thing you are implying that cruise companies are the "safer bet". However when the passengers book the shore excursions through the cruise companies the tour operators like myself are the same persons that carrying them around for the day. Long story short they want the passengers to think that only their tours are safe but that is obviously not the case. We are all operators certified by the country to provide a safe and wonderful service.
My prices are comparable and my tours are more personalized also if you would like to customize a tour for your family I can do that as well. Check out my shore excursions on my website below:
I Think you should come on your own ,this way you will get to experience what jamaica, cayman island and cozumel have to offer to you . you will never get to experience the real jamaica on a cruise get to see why people love the island you will too.

With cruises you'll find that time is an issue I'd suggest take the tours offered by the cruise, I'll admit it's not the perfect package, but you'll get an idea of what we have to offer and hopefully you'll be back to see how much fun you can really have. Popular tours for cruise ship passengers are Dolphin Cove(pricey but can be really good), Mystic Mountain. Try and ATV tour you'll get some great views and some blood pumping adventure...have a great trip congratulations...One LOVE .
I suggest that you book through the cruise for safety reasons and time restraints. However, next time try to fly to Jamaica for a week so you can really see the island. The cruise will leave you wanting more. Hopefully, for an anniversary you can do this and explore the true beauty of the island. For now just stick to the cruise ship and there services. Do enjoy your honeymoon. One Love.
i would suggest taking the cruise with the company. Navigating your way through any new place can be quite a tedious task and really takes all the fun out of the trip. The company would act as a guide so you dont have to work out all the details of your trip, giving you more time to relax, unwind and really enjoy your time in Jamaica
I would advise u to get the hassle out of the way and just simply book the land tour with the cruise company, since its your honeymoon - so forget about the headache! Enjoy your cruise!
Yah Do the Land excursions with the cruise company best bet fi real
cheers
In my opinon guided tours are best recommended, however, there are taxi drivers who are licence to take you wherever you desire. It is pretty safe to walk around in Jamaica and Grand Cayman. Grand Cayman is small, thus walking can be enjoying, in Jamaica, it will leave you grasping for air. Need assistant with booking a private excursion, email me at . I am only too happy to help.
taking a tour from the ship is more expensive and u wont see much..
To see be able to see alot more of our beautiful island I would advise you to seek the assistance of one of our many excrution companies here in Jamaica where you would get the opportunity to see a lot more for an additional cost. Whilst the tour that the cusise offers will only be consisted of a small portion of the island (mainly on the North Coast where the cruise will be docking).
honestly i would suggest that you do it with the cruise, you will not know where to go how to do it, to be on the safe side,j in my opinon
Book everything with our cruise ship you will be safer for it! But if you prefer I can take you on tours you just need to tell me which tours you wish to go on and you need to book it at least two weeks to a month ahead of time and i will personally get a JUTA Taxi to take us around unless there are others in your group and then I would have to get a bus for you all.

i think u should take the tour offered by the cruise you will need their expertise if u don't know your way around.
Book tours with a local company and pay far less than the cruise ship charges.
