What are the 'must see' sights in / around Barcelona & Madrid?

I'm answering as a Barcelona expert, I trust someone else will be able to inform you about the Madrid must-sees.

Old Town: Rambla and Boqueria Food Market, Gothic Quarter with Old Cathedral, Jewish Section, roman remains, medieval alleys and squares.
Gaudí sites: appartment buildings Casa Milà / Pedrera and Casa Batlló, Sagrada Familia church, Park Güell
Montjuic Hill: city views, Olympic stadium and 1929 world fair
Waterfront: Olympic Village, Barceloneta, Old Port (Port Vell)
Museums: Picasso and Miró are my favorites! but also the MNAC or the Museum of History of the City.

Excursions around Barcelona: Montserrat, Penedès Wine Country, Girona, Dalí Museum in Figueres, Sitges, Tarragona...
