when is the best time of year to visit

City: Venice

Region: Veneto

Country: Italy

Summer for the beaches, winter (february) for the Carnival or to go skying in the mountiens.
I like spring here, but turistically is a season with no guests (maybe this is why I love it, I can hang around in places otherwise crowded without feeling the smel of peoples transpiration, or getting pickpocketed)
Autumn is rainy, after september, no big deal.

Christmas everybody goes crazy, but that's universal in the christian world (and here they claim to be the belly button of christianity!)

Other questions?
It all depends if you want to stay away from the tourists or not: March-April-September-October-November are the best times to avoid the masses, the weather is not so hot and you can go around without the crowds. Summer it is very hot and sticky but generally always sunny. Winter it is rainy, even snowing this year and sometimes you get acqua alta. Price wise it is better to come in winter (prices are much much lower), in summer they can triple or more. Anyway Venice is beautiful in all seasons, with th sun, the fog or the rain, it always has something to give.
We went there in november, it might be cold but the crowds are gone. Very nice to go to Murano and the other islands then, because they're almost without tourists in the period.
