The MRT is really easy to use, either buy a Easypass and top up as you use at any of the Station Control Centers, or you can buy a per-trip ticket..

Accomodation is a personal choice, but low end you're looking at the backpackers and budget hotels. There are some excellent backpackers in Singapore, just do a google search and you'll find the major ones.

If you have any questions feel free to send me an email.

Hi! There are quite a few things around SG to look at and experience. Food is definitely one, shopping is another, the arts, etc. It might help if you narrow things down and perhaps share what your interests are.

There are quite a few cheap places to stay at. Hotel81 and Fragrance Hotels offer rooms around S$80 per night or you may search around a few hostels for accommodation.

As for the MRT, go to the station, purchase a ticket from the machine (not the manned counter). This will cost S$1 more than the actual fare due to the charge of a refundable deposit of S$1. Take the ticket and tap it above the turnstiles and enter. Repeat this when exiting and return the ticket to the machine to collect your initial deposit of S$1.

The cost of a trip ranges from S$1 to S$2 and travel time should not be more than an hour for any one trip. If you expect to take many trips, you might want to get a Singapore Tourist Pass which will cost S$18 for a 1 day pass, S$26 for a 2 day pass and S$34 for a 3 day pass. You will get a refund of S$10 if the pass is returned within 5 days. The pass gives you unlimited travel on the MRT and buses and will also give you some promotional offers. See for more information (it also tells you how to use the card on the bus and MRT).

Visit and for travel times and fares on the trains.

Some interesting places you should not miss include
1) Sentosa island
2) Singapore Science Centre & Omnitheatre
3) Shopping at Orchard Road & Bugis, Marina Square Area

It's really easy to get around by the MRT and you can download a copy of the map at

Just remember that there are 4 Main Lines
North , South, East & West Lines. West to East Lines bring you from the Western Part of Singapore like Science Centre to the eastern part of Singapore like Pasor Ris where you will find many chalets.

Interchange points are at Outram, Dhoby Ghaut which transfers to the Circle Line
Raffles Place & City Hall which transfers to Orchard Road.

Bishan which transfers to the Circle Line
Choa Chu Kang which allows you to transfer to the LRT at Bt Panjang.

There are many budget hostels along the stretch from Bugis to Little India such as
Waterloo hostel,Backpacker's Inn at Bugis and you can google to search more. There is a new hostel called Ideal backpackers but have not seen it. they are advertising rates as low as $12/dorm bed.

Food is realtively cheap in Singapore if you eat at Hawker centres or food courts.

Basically for a 4D/3N trip, you can expect to spend between $75-$90 per person.

As for entrance tickets to attractions, you can do a search on eBay Singapore and find some great deals by travel agents.
