Hey .. you can check out my profile page where I have other options such as going to a Samba School Rehearsals or visit a FAVELA (it's quite safe once you go with a known tour guide as I propose), and some other activities the city around: museums, cultural centers, etc...

Hello!
There's so much to see and do in Rio!
Here are some ideas: visit the Botanical Garden, take a boat ride in the Guanabara Bay, take a day trip to Búzios or Petropolis; if you like history, take a guided tour of the city center, don't forget to try the delicious açai at one of the many juice bars in Copacabana or Ipanema; visit the "Feira de São Cristóvão " and experience the food and arts of the Northeast; if you like soccer, the Maracanã stadium is a must see. A visit to the zoo is also interesting not only because you can see some of Brazil's native animals but also because it is located in a park where the Royal Family lived in the 19th century. I love watching the sunset at the Copacabana Fortress... it is definitely worthy. Tired? there's more... eat at "Porcão Rio's" and make sure you get a table by the window because the view is amazing! Another nice place to eat at is in the city center, the "Confeitaria Colombo", founded in 1894. Avoid lunch time because it's really busy. I love going there for an afternoon snack! They have the best pastries! Go to the "Feirinha de Ipanema" at General Osório Square (on Sundays) and buy very good quality handicrafts.
Wow, there's so much more... if you want more ideas for things to do at night as well, don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
Some other nice places you can go in Rio de Janeiro:
Floresta da Tijuca, an urban forest
Bothanical Garden
Lagoa, a nice place to walk or to exercise (there are very nice restaurants there)
Parque Laje
The Modern Art Museum (Mam)
Lamas, a very traditional restaurant at Largo do Machado (Machado de Assis, a very famous Brazilian writer used to go there )
Albatroz, a nice and typical Brazilian food restaurant in the port zone
I do not know Rio de Janeiro. Visit Brasilian northwest. visit Ceará . It is sun all year long. 300 km of beautiful beaches . you can see some photos of the region in my orkut : email
Others have already elaborated on a host of detailed hints here. My suggestion is you get to let ME cart you around, for a fare, of course. Some say I'm the #1 in Rio (no false modesty here!), since I've come to know how to "dance on ALL balls" in this fantastic town. Just go to website for contact means.
Happy Travels;

Thre are severalç areas of good interest including the center of Rio where you find all the historical sites and a lovely neighboorhood called ST Terasa that you can ride the old tram from 1895 into itd dtreets. It is great experience. Other that there is a National Park inside the big urban forest called Tijuca where you find lots of wild life, cascades and viewpoints. I think you should go for a ride and a hike in the Tijuca Forest. You have many options of trails, views and waterfalls. The district of Santa teresa is very charming too (go for a trolley ride). Besides Ipanema and Copacabana, you can also find Prainha and Grumari, two wild beaches just 1 hour away from Copacabana. Ilha Grande is a very good option to relax outside (but not far) of Rio. Have fun!
Go to the west side of Rio and find the beach of Grumari, you will love it. And Sugar Loaf deserves a visit for the sunset!
Sunset in Sugar Loaf is wonderful, I agree
You should always consider Niteroi.
Corcovado
