i would recommend to u Mara Simba Lodge its on the border of the mara park near the river and u will not have problem with the security of the park.

u can also hire a car from nairobi and drive down it would be much cheaper then getting a touring company to take u there.

once at mara simba lodge u could use their cars to tour the park
I do not think that going alone to the reserve makes it cheaper, its more expensive,I would advice you let a tour company give you a package and you compare, most tour companies have special arrangements with the lodges to pay less since they bring in groups in great numbers.... you can check the rates with African Touch Adventures.
The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is widely considered to be Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve. The Mara comprises200 sq miles of open plains, woodlands and riverine forest. Contiguous with the plains of the Serengeti, the Mara is home to a breath taking array of life.

The large expanse of grasslands is occupied by Zebras, Gazelles, Topi and Giraffes. Several monkeys plus birds are found in the acacia forests, whereas buffaloes & elephants are prevalent in the Musiara Swamp. River Mara and river Talek have hundreds of hippopotami and crocodiles there.
Maasai Mara, Wilderbeest Migration
Each year the Mara plays host to the world’s greatest natural spectacle, the Great Wildebeest Migration from the Serengeti.
**
Annually the Mara hosts a great natural spectacular migration of Wildebeests from the adjacent Serengeti.
From July to October, the promise of rain and fresh life giving grass in the north brings more than 1.3 million Wildebeest together into a single massive herd.
**
Starting July up to October, the terrain is very verdant with green due to the rains and this attracts over one million Wildebeests into a large herd to graze.
They pour across the border into the Mara, making a spectacular entrance in a surging column of life that stretches from horizon to horizon.

How to Get to Masai Mara
Majority of the people that visit the reserve prefer taking flights, Mara has many operational airstrips. They are flights from Nairobi and also the coast. Private Charters are also accessible at the airstrip. Using road transport to Mara may be abit challenging because the roads are in a poor condition and if you can’t take up a flight, then use private transport. Visitors that come to Maasai Mara book a safari offer right from Nairobi or perhaps hire a vehicle.
Narok is the best road transport and takes about 3 hours drive from Nairobi. They are normal buses along with Matatus from Nairobi to Narok and other locations.
The park has constructed inner roads as well as tracks. Although accessing other areas outside the reserve is done by public transport. If you are to try it on your own, you may find difficulties or even got lost on the way. Many Safari operators can easily plan particular hikes, treks as well as tours in any destination of interest.
Yours Sincerely,

The Masai Mara Game is a famous tourist attraction in Kenya, it’s acknowledged as Africa’s best wildlife reserve. The major reason as why people visit this area is because they want to catch a glimpse of the wildlife. The abundance of the wildlife in Mara will surely make your dream come true.
The best time to visit the Mara is from July to October, it’s a period when the great wildebeest migration takes place from Serengeti to the reserve. You get a chance to see the natural beauty of Africa at its best. Annually there is an anticipation of rain and better pasture in the north that attracts over 1.3million wildebeest into a solitary huge herd. There is a grand entrance of the wildebeest on the southern plains of Mara and as they get close to the riverbank, they make a thrilling sight that keeps you wondering how blessed Africa is.
The best spot to catch a glance of the wildebeest is on the riverbank as the animals fight with the awaiting crocodiles. The herds come along with other predators; it’s such a great experience for a lifetime. At this moment lions are easily spotted either on a hunt or as they rest, they are common in all corners of the reserve.Hyena, Jackals as well as cheetah are also seen and some are predators.
Taking up a safari to Mara will surely give you a chance to see many wildlife in just a day. The open grassland has massive herds of Topi, Gazelle, Giraffe as well as Zebra. Surprisingly the predators move along with the herds, the Musiara swamp is a habitat to the large herds of elephants that may want to cool off the heat. As you move alongside the riverbanks of Talek and Mara, you will get a good view of large concentration of crocodiles and hippos as they chilly in the cool water. The riverine forest is a home to many bird species and monkeys.
For a wonderful experience on this African wilderness, a balloon safari can be the best you can opt for. Safari companies can organize such a package, It offers an amazing view of the open plains of Mara and still see large herds of wildlife below as they graze.

The best way to get a wonderful view of the animals is by taking up a horse ride and this is done outside the major reserve. you will move at your own pace as you see massive herds of wildlife grazing. This safari is organized by experienced riders who can tour the area on their own. Its a wonderful experience that you will keep remembering for the rest of your life.

Hi, You must have a budget, the accommodation you choose ( Game lodge/ Tented camps) willl also determine the cost. Also if you can organize yourself in a group you can get a good package which will be cheaper than traveling alone. There is also the question of when you are traveling as there are Low and High season where different rates do apply.

Masai mara is “the” park of all parks in Kenya. The grass-carpeted smooth hills, the chocolate Mara river waters having mithful hippos, and the rich variety of fauna, fulfil the anticipations of any tourist looking African landscape displayed in motion pictures for example, “Out of Africa” or “Mogambo”. Save specific tastes and needs, this is the park leading the “must” list in the country: no Kenya Vacations would be considered complete without a safari to Masai Mara. It is true that it is not graded best for bird lovers and also true that some species are rare to find. But leopards and rhinos are plenty, Kenya Holiday and with over 450 bird species, the reserve should not envy the great Kenyan bird places. Though, Kenya Tours in a region just a bit smaller than the state of Rhode Island and with changed and complicated geography, getting lost is far quicker compared to finding a leopard or viewing a certain bird group in its various woods.

Depends on the following. 1. Number of nights you want to spend in the Mara (Recommended 3 nights) 2. Whether you will fly out to the Mara or you want to drive down. (Drive recommended) However, worth to note that there are a number of options in terms of accommodation. Last but not least also depends on the period of travel. There is a low season and high season in which prices vary.
Dependng on where you are coming from you may get different rates from tour agents or as well you may book the hotels and lodges located in or outside the reserve of which many offer game drives as part the parkage or as extra Also some other factors to consider are weather and season April-may lots of rain
October-November short rain
July-September immagration of animals
Incase you may require more assistance always there for you
Hello,
Maasai mara can be visited anytime of year, this is the only game reserve in kenya where you can possibly view the big five in one game drive.Planning a trip to the Maasai mara and it is also not expensive depending on the time of year, and type of accommodation one wishes to take, there are three main seasons of the year for safaris in the Maasai mara, so rates depend on which of the season you want to take your safari, another option is taking the safari in a group this will make it cheaper since most of the costs are shared, so please feel free to contact me and in good time so that i can plan a trip to the Mara for you or your friends, Best regards, Kores ( )
