Trying to plan a day trip from Florence to Siena, wanted to stop at a couple wineries and see main sites? Any Suggestions ?

City: Siena

Region: Tuscany

Country: Italy

instead of driving the easiest way to Siena form Florence, you could take the SR222 and come to Siena from the Chianti area (Greve, Castellina), stopa at a couple of wineries along the way, there are so many, for example Fontodi in Panzano in Chianti, between Greve and Castellina.
In Siena don't miss the Campo square and the Cathedral, I can help if you want to take a tour with me send e mail to

Along the main road from Florence to Siena I would suggest to stop to visit the Fattoria Castello di Monteriggioni (a small town near Siena known for its castle), where it is possible to visit vineyards and to do rides on bicycle and to taste (and to buy naturally) their fine classic Chianti and olive oil. As second alternative I would suggest to visit the estate Poggio Casciano owner Ruffino, near Florence. This estate is not quite along the main road to reach Siena from Florence but they produce a very fine red wine Sangiovese named Ducale I like very much. You are able to reach then the main road to Siena at Figline Valdarno, passing by Greve in Chianti.
