The Lowe's Hotel in Santa Monica. It's beautiful, on the beach, near the SM Pier and 3rd Street. The kids will love it.

to be honest, stay at the Sheraton LAX. It's $84 a night, has a spectacular pool, you will get upgraded to a suite and have lounge access (which includes breakfast and dinner for your kids) and just cruise around LA each day. Oh, and $20 valet parking is free! You just need to google the IMB Corporate code to get this rate.

If you want luxury, I'd stay at the Fairmont because it is across the street from the 3rd Street Prominade. Joing the Presidents Club at for free to get upgrades, free wifi and special deals.
Santa Monica if you wanna be close to the action. Malibu is BEAUTIFUL and the beaches are definitely cleaner. But the "bu" is kind of outta the way in you're visiting attractions in Santa Monica and LA.
I think Santa Monica has more places to stay nad more to do for your children. Also it is closer to the rest of Los Angeles.
If having a special Kids program makes a difference, then I too would recommend the Loews Hotel, right on the beach in Santa Monica. Also, Santa Monica would have diversions such as the Santa Monica pier and is close to more diverse restaurant choices and is closer to the funky Venice boardwalk and, for the wife, shopping. If a kids program isn't of interest, you may want to consider Shutters on the Beach (nicer, but more pricey than the Loews).
By all means, Santa Monica is the best choice for families with kids regardless of their age. The Pier and beach are unriviled, the Third Street Promenade is closs at hand for eating and shopping.
