Question

If you had a friend coming to SF for 1 night only and they've never been to SF before, what restaurant would you take them to?

Thinking I'd like to avoid the uber-tourist areas (ie: Fisherman's Wharf)

Location

City: San Francisco

State: California

Country: United States

Answers

Zuni Cafe or Range for Cali cuisine
Ryoko for sushi
Cliff House, Beach Chalet, or maybe Greens in Fort Mason. Also maybe something in the ferry building. If you don’t mind heading out of town, Horizon’s in Sausalito has a really pretty view of the city, as does the Spinnaker.
I second the Range recommendation.

Also, I think Burma Superstar is pretty great if you don't mind the wait. Get a drink somewhere and they call your cell when your table is ready. You could go to one of the little pearl tea shops afterward for interesting Asian desserts. Or gummy candy.
Personally I would go to what I consider the heart of SF, North Beach...either Tomasso's or the The Stinking Rose...yes tourists go there, but NB is pretty cool in my book, for the longtime flavor of SF
I like Zunie Cafe...

Cha Cha Cha in the Haight or the Mission are both great SF standbys and are cheap eats. Foreign Cinema is also awesome. If you eat in the Mission, stand in line for ice cream at Bi-Rite after and then hit a Mission bar for drinks.
Gary Danko is still number 1 in my book:
