I'm off to Paris on Sat after an absence of about 20 years. What is unmissable these days?
Sorry I’m so late catching up with you. The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre won’t have changed much and you probably saw them the first time round so here are my Paris tips for anyone coming back for a second trip. Explore the Marais – the area between the Centre Pompidou and the Bastille. You won’t believe how many fashionable shops and cafés have opened there in the past 20 years. Another area newly popular with tourists (and locals) is around the Canal St-Martin. Take a slow boat from the Bassin de l’Arsenal up to Porte de la Villette, then make your way back on foot past the attractions of La Villette and down past the little shops and cafés crammed with chic Parisians. Both areas have streets closed to traffic on Sundays which makes them ideal places for exploring by Vélib, the rental bicycles that are everywhere now.
