Country: Jamaica

Answers

Well, with Jamaica being home to Jerked meats, especially chicken, the country is littered with Jerk spots on street sides if not in typical restaurant settings. For the unaware traveller, if you hear about our night entertainment areas like New Kingston, you sure to find jerk pans nearby simply by following that distinctive pimento scent of their burning wood around the corner. Otherwise, I recommend Scotchie's and Chelsea Jerk Centers on Chelsea Avenue (someone correct me if I'm wrong with the address) in New Kingston. There is also another stop by Put and Play across from the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston...Seafood something. You will find jerk chicken men along Red Hills Road nearer to the hills for some roadside chicken and pork after 6pm any day of the week. If you want it fast food style there's always Island Grill all over the island. On the way to Ocho Rios there is Lyming (a must stop spot), Fate's Pen (hard to miss strip of huts on the lefthand side coloured in Red Stripe logo's) and another popular restaurant at the left of the entrance to Ocho Rios where the Fern Gully road meets Main Street. Then there is the famous Boston Jerk found in its namesake (Boston) in Portland. These certainly are not the only Jerk sites in Jamaica, but a few of the most popular spots known to the typical Jamaican. You can be assured that any and all of these spots will have at least our feathered friend on their grill and with luck some pork and seafood too. You can ask around as you go through towns where to find the next best jerk spot, every well cultured Jamaican has their personal favorite, even if it's a neighbour's own backyard grill. Do enjoy your tour with us.
O My!
You must first realise that this is a very popular activity islandwide as more Jamaicans take to the streets to earn a living from the 'jerk pan'. These 'pan' men, who are widely accepted as great contributors to Jamaica's culture, jerk a variety of meat although the more popular are fish, chicken and pork. I've known of spots jerking mutton, beef and even vegetable stalks. Jerk sausage is now an increasing favourite. Chicken is particularly jerked in at least three ways.
To do a 'jerk' tour you must therefore consider the formal jerk establishments, the 'jerk pan' man of the streets, both night and day, and the cook shops. Don't forget the friendly neighbours, fast food establishments and restaurants who very willing to jerk for you. Restaurants such as Island Grill offers a delicious jerk fish or pork on their menu.
Most parish borders either have a jerk establishment, or a line of jerk pan vendors. The list of 'jerk spots' is always growing, so do extensive research with a contact person before you come. The list of the more popular spots are include:
Boston (Portland)
Blueberry Hill (Portland)
Montego Bay (St James)
border of St Elizabeth and St James
Atop Long Lane Road (Kingston and Saint Andrew)
Corner of White Hall Avenue and Mannings Hill Road (Saint Andrew)
Chelsea Jerk Centre (New Kingston, Saint Andrew)
across from the Pegasus Hotel (Knutsford Boulevard, Saint Andrew)
Faith's Pen (Saint Ann in Moneague region)
Runaway Bay (in Saint Ann, almost across from Green Grotto caves)
Spur Tree Hill (Saint Elizabeth)

Please remember there are other popular spots, and the list is ever-growing. So please do make contact with someone with experience in touring, or make friends along the way for a better trip.
Hello,

There are many spots

In Ocho Rios, I reccomend Ocho Rios Jerk Centre, Scothies
in Portland it is Boston
In Montego bay its Scotchies and the Pork Pit
in Kingston its scotchies and Sweetwood Jerk Centre
in Runaway Bay its Ultimate. at Parties you will see the Jerk pans where the small business men do their thing.
Okay we have heard it all. I guess we had the bobsled team so why not go for a ride on this tour? If my name isn't Scott Fitzgerald? What the heck, in America they got jerks and in Jamaica we eat them. Jerk here, jerk there, and jerk everywhere. I just off the Duppy tour, so I would love to explore the jerk tour. First, you can hire me as your location scout. I will recon the jerks to make sure they are friendly..and safe. Last thing you want happening is someone getting jerked around. And trust I won't jerk -off on the job either and allow anyone to jerk off... i mean around..all seriousness aside this isn't any jerking matter. Hey, do you need a jerkster for the lead role?
WE have a beautifuk spot on the White River called Hidden Beauty where tourists from the Chukka Cove tubing tour stop and sample our jerk chicken.Well worth the visit.you can contact me for directions.
