Have a wander around Chinatown to look at the pre-War shophouses, especially at the Chinatown Heritage Centre, if you are also interested in history.

Nearby, you can head over to the Civic District around Stamford Road where you can see the Armenian Church (oldest church in Singapore), the Singapore Art Museum (beautifully retrofitted old catholic school), the National Museum, the old and new Supreme Courts, old and new Parliament Houses, the various bank buildings along the banks of the Singapore River (the tallest allowed buildings in Singapore due to flight restrictions), the Cavenaugh Bridge, etc. To see the first examples of public housing that Singapore is famous for, head over to Tiong Bahru around Tiong Poh Road to see this. In fact, some of the early blocks have been converted into the Link Hotel where the rates can be fairly low. There is also a Hotel 81 in the area which is also famous for low rates and basic accommodation. A Hotel 81 is also available at the Chinatown area as is the Royal Peacock Hotel.

There are also many other areas where you can explore architecture such as the Serangoon area (Serangoon Road is one of the original roads built by the British in Singapore). Head over to Lau Pa Sat not just for the food but also to see the original city market with its iron/steel structures and to the Amoy Street area to see the Thian Hock Keng Temple where the wrought iron gates are shipped from Scotland.

Let us know what sorts of architecture and we can try to narrow things down for you.

Friend I would love to see contemporary architecture and of course some of the space economizing architecture and interior designs.
thanks
Hi, there are a few places that you may want to check out
1) Rochester Road, where the black-and-white British pre war Bungalows are.
2) Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Tanjong Pagar where most of the pre war godowns(pre-war warehouses)
3) Museums in Singapore also has places where you can admire the architecture. You can also contact the Architecture Association of Singapore for more information.
4) But the best is to get a Guide to help you .Ms Geraldene Lowe does very informative walking tours of black-and-white bungalows and other architecture tours of Singapore but not sure if your visit coincide with her tours. There are also a few blog reviews written about this tour.
